What is the Difference Between PDO ,PCL,and PLLA Threads?
|
PDO thread are very different from PLLA and PCL threads. In addition to the different materials of the three threads, the three main differences between the three threads are tensile strength, stiffness, and durability. |

Thread lift is a very common and sought-after procedure in the field of medical aesthetics - both by practitioners and patients. Thread Lifting Thread is a non-surgical. An invasive anti-aging treatment that uses a facial thread implanted under the skin, dermis, or fixed to the fascia to lift sagging skin tissue and restructure the face volume to restore a V-shaped face. So on achieve a more youthful appearance. Since the linear lift is an ultra-minimally invasive surgery. the general wound is only the size of a pinhole. Hence their popularity, they refresh and rejuvenate the skin. There is no downtime after treatment and you can go to work immediately after treatment. Thus, Thread lift can continue to gain attention in the medical field. |
| Usually, thread lifts are used to tighten the skin and contour. Over the past few years, the use of threaded levator muscles has grown from the face to other parts of the body. Besides to the well-known PDO threads, the market now uses new threads such as PLLA and PCL. |

The PDO thread is composed of Polydioxanone (PDO). PDO Thread is to use the foreign body reaction to stimulate the production of collagen in the body. Rather than the material of the thread itself containing collagen. After the thread is implanted into the skin. It promotes the reorganization and regeneration of collagen and elastic fibers. And achieve the purpose of continuously delaying skin aging. Thereby eliminating wrinkles, lifting sagging tissue, tightening the skin, improves fine wrinkles and reduces the size of the pores, and improving the brightness of the complexion.
Effectively improves the elasticity and firmness of the skin at the treatment site. It is gradually absorbed and broken down into carbon dioxide and water in the body around 6-10 months. And absorbed by the skin, it helps stimulate skin collagen production and synthesis for up to 12 months. During surgery, the physical structure of fat cells is altered at the cellular level, making PDO thread embedding a very effective method for facial contouring, contouring, and rejuvenation. |
|
Another material commonly chosen for surgical sutures is Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA). They typically last up to 18 months and also help restore the skin’s moisture content. PLLA is more effective than PDO in mimicking collagen production. As time goes by, the threads attract more moisture and stimulate more collagen production. So results often become visible after 4~6 weeks. Once dissolved, PLLA breaks down into harmless common substances. like lactate, glucose, carbon dioxide and water. |
|
PCL thread material refers to Polycaprolactone(PCL). which is a powerful collagen regeneration agent. While not as common or popular as PDO and PLLA, polycaprolactone (PCL) wire can last up to 2+ years. This is because the chemical bonds and structures in PCL are stronger and more complex. and so take longer to dissolve completely. The slower rate of degradation of PCL wires also makes them ideal for prolonged insertion into surrounding tissue. Also very flexible and highly elastic, causing less pain and discomfort to the patient compared to PDO wires. PCL is also very effective in stimulating collagen production compared to PDO or PLLA. Once dissolved, the material breaks down into a non-toxic common substance. And even after being dissolved online, collagen production can continue for up to a year. |

The difference between PDO, PCL, PLLA Thread
|
The same can be absorbed thread, but the three are still different! PDO threads are very different from PLLA and PCL threads. The three main differences between these threads are tensile strength, stiffness, and durability. PDO or polydioxane threads only dissolve after 6 to 9 months. In contrast, PLLA or polylactic acid threads dissolve after 12 to 18 months. PCL is the most durable of the three. They take two to three years to dissolve completely.(Comparison of three thread durations) Moreover, the thread quality of PCL thread is relatively soft and the lifting force is insufficient. So there are few practical applications. But precisely because of this, the operation mode of PCL thread will be more flexible and changeable! In fact, in essence, since these two kinds of thread can be used in face lift surgery, it means that they are non-toxic and harmless to the human body. It will be metabolized into water and carbon dioxide, there is no residue and side effects in the body, and the safety is very high. |
| Difference between PDO, PCL, PLLA Thread |
|
Processing with PLLA or PCL threads is not necessarily better. Not only are they more durable: they are also harder than PDO threads. And most of the PCL thread are purified from animal protein, which means that extreme inflammation, discomfort and other side effects may occur. In this regard, the PDO thread has some advantages! However, as mentioned above, because the PCL thread is soft, the lifting capacity is not as strong as that of the PDO thread. Therefore, the different materials cause the two kinds of thread to have their own advantages and disadvantages. |
